NOTES FROM AROUND THE PFL

WEEK 6 IN REVIEW
Butler brought the NCAA’s longest scoring streak to an end, shutting out Dayton 31-0 to highlight a wild Week 6 in the PFL… St. Thomas downed Davidson at home and Valparaiso won at Presbyterian to put the Tommies and Beacons atop the league standings… Marist downed Stetson in a wild fourth-quarter that saw the teams combine for five touchdowns in the fourth quarter alone… San Diego returned to action with a key road win at Drake… There were four return touchdowns during the week, three coming in the Marist-Stetson game… Marist’s Clayborne Fields III had an 89-yard kick return and a 70-yard interception return in a 89-second span against Stetson… Jalen Mason also had a 94-yard kick return for a touchdown against Marist in the same game… San Diego’s Hunter Nichols added a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown at Drake… St. Thomas defensive back Luke Glenna posted the league’s first 20-tackle outing of 2022 with 22 tackles (11 solo) against Dayton…  Stetson linebacker Ethan Hull (17) and Presbyterian linebacker Alex Herriott (16) also recorded 15-plus tackles during the week… 10 PFL defenders recorded an interception each during the week…Valparaiso’s Aaron Dawson (163) and Stetson’s Glenmour Leonard-Osborne (118) were the league’s 100-yard rushers during the week; Dawson became the first PFL runner with multiple 100-yard rushing performances… Butler’s Tyler Adams (149) and Presbyterian’s Jalen Jones (116) notched the league’s two 100-yard receiving outings; it was Adams second 100-yard receiving outing of 2022.

WILDCATS DO RUN RUN
Davidson rushed for a FCS single-game best 498 yards against Butler, Oct. 1, it’s third 400-yard rushing day of 2022. The Wildcats topped their previous season best of 417 yards set against St. Andrews, Sept. 17. Davidson also amassed 403 yards against Barton, Sept. 10, and nearly hit the 400-yard mark with 396 yards against Presbyterian, Sept. 24. Those four games rank first, second, fourth, and fifth, respectively in the FCS this season. Only Gardner-Webb’s 412 yards against Limestone break up Davidson’s hold on the top five spots. Davidson is averaging an FCS best 363.7 rushing yards per game – 74.2 yards per game more than second-ranked Montana State.

HATTERS THROUGH THE AIR
Meanwhile, Stetson enters Week 6 ranked No. 8 among FCS teams with 304.8 passing yards per game. The Hatters 444-yard performance against Louisiana Christian is the ninth-best passing performance in 2022 while its 384 yards against Concordia ranks 23rd.

NO FLAG ZONE
PFL teams rank among the FCS’ least-penalized teams in 2022. Dayton (2nd, 3.6 per game) and Morehead State (7th, 4.0 per game) are among the FCS top 10 in fewest penalties per game. In terms of penalty yards, Morehead State (1st, 28.4 per game), Dayton (2nd, 28.6), and Drake (10th, 34.83) are among the subdivisions top 10.

DAYTON SCORING STREAK ENDS
With its shutout loss at Butler, Oct. 8, Dayton saw its consecutive game scoring streak end at 501 games. The Flyers streak dated back to Oct. 16, 1976, when they fell 9-0 to Marshall. The streak lasted 16,971 days and spanned the administrations of nine U.S. Presidents.

SAN DIEGO’S SCORING STREAK BECOMES PFL’S LONGEST
With Dayton’s consecutive game scoring streak coming to an end, San Diego takes over as the longest scoring streak in the PFL. The Toreros have scored in 247 games, with their last shutout coming at the hands of Dayton during the 1999 season.

St. THOMAS’ GLENNA, BUTLER BULLDOGS EARN FEDEX WEEK 6 HONORS
St. Thomas defensive back Luke Glenna was one of four athletes recognized by Stats Perform as FedEx Ground FCS National Players of the Week for Week 6 college football games through Saturday. In addition, Butler was named the FCS National Team of the Week. Glenna doubled up his previous career high with 22 tackles in the Tommies’ biggest win to date in two FCS seasons – 27-16 over Davidson. The Bulldogs posted their first shutout win since 2010, ended a seven-game losing streak against Dayton, and halted the Flyers’ NCAA record streak of scoring points in 501 consecutive games.
