Davidson's Funsten, Morehead State's Sawyer named to CFPA preseason wide receiver list

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –Davidson's Lanny Funsten and Morehead State's Donte Sawyer were the Pioneer Football League's two representatives on the 2012 College Football Performance Awards preseason watch list at wide receiver, the organization announced Monday.

Sawyer was a first-team All-PFL selection last season. He finished his junior campaign ranked third among PFL receivers in receiving yards per game (82.2 ypg), fourth in receptions (5.5 pg) and fourth in scoring (6.5 ppg). Sawyer also ranked second among all PFL all-purpose runners, averaging 146.2 yards per game.

Funsten was a second-team All-PFL pick in 2011. He led the Pioneer Football league in receptions (9.1 pg) and reception yardage (100.6 ypg) and was ranked among the league's top 10 in scoring (4.4 ppg).

The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
