CHARLOTTE defeated CAMPBELL, 33-9
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell opened its 2014 schedule with a 33-9 nonconference loss to Charlotte, Thursday night, in front of a record crowd of 6,472 at Barker-Lane Stadium. Campbell trailed by a 6-3 margin at halftime before Charlotte scored on each of its three third-quarter possessions. Camels quarterback Dakota Wolf finished with 222 total yards and threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Ben Bolling in the fourth quarter. Campbell finished with a 24-19 edge in first downs, but could not contain a 49ers offense that compiled 264 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

WESTERN ILLINOIS defeated VALPARAISO, 45-6
MACOMB, Ill. – The Dave Cecchini era began at Valparaiso with a 45-6 loss to Western Illinois, Thursday night, at Hanson Field. Crusaders junior running back Brandon Hall rushed for a touchdown with 2:33 remaining to breakup the Leathernecks shutout bid and he finished with 71 all-purpose yards. Western Illinois amassed 593 offensive yards while holding Valparaiso to 277 yards. .
