ST. LOUIS – Drake linebacker John Hugunin doubled down on national honors after his Week 8 performance against Jacksonville, earning a STATS FCS National Player of the Week award and College Sporting News National All Star honors.

It is the fourth time this season a PFL student-athlete has received one of the STATS FCS National Player of the Week Awards. He joins Morehead State's Austin Gahafer (Offense, Week 2); Campbell's Ugonna Awuruonye (Defense, Week 5); and San Diego's Anthony Lawrence (Freshman, Week 7). However, Hugunin becomes the first PFL student-athlete to receive recognition from College Sporting News as one of its National All Stars.

Hugunin recorded a career-high 20 tackles (10 solo) to spark Drake’s defense in a 28-24 Pioneer Football League victory against previously unbeaten Jacksonville. His 20 tackles were the most by a PFL defender this season and only the 10th time since 2002 a PFL player has recorded 20 or more tackles in a single game. Hugunin also forced a pair of fumbles in the contest, including one to set up Drake’s game-winning fourth-quarter drive. He was credited with 1.5 tackles for loss, all in sacks, one resulting in his other fumble forced.
