With the win, Dayton claimed the Pioneer League championship for the second straight year. The league's championship game was created last year.

Dayton's (11-1, 4-0 PFL North) special teams scored the game's first two touchdowns. The Flyers first scored with 10:34 left in the second quarter when Furman fell on the ball in the end zone after Chris Fackler blocked a punt. Furman scored again when he intercepted a David Caudill pass and returned it 52 yards with 9:29 left in the third. Furman finished with three interceptions.

Caudill threw for 196 yards and rushed for 50 for the Eagles (9-3, 3-0 PFL South), but he was sacked four times.

Flyers quarterback Kelly Spiker rushed for 172 yards and scored a touchdown, and Geno Mattioda rushed for 57 yards and a TD.
