The 2013 regular season came to a conclusion, Saturday, with Campbell and Mercer each picking up PFL victories.

LEAGUE RECAPS

CAMPBELL defeated DAVIDSON, 47-14
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Campbell ran for 235 yards, including 117 from freshman DeShawn Jones, and defeated Pioneer Football League rival Davidson 47-14 Saturday at Richardson Stadium.

Campbell finishes the season 3-9 overall and 2-6 in PFL play, while Davidson ended 0-11 on the year and 0-8 in conference games. The win was Campbell's second consecutive at Davidson after taking a 26-20 triple overtime victory in Richardson Stadium in 2011.

Jones, a freshman from Greensboro, N.C., carried 11 times for 117 yards and a touchdown, averaging 10.6 per attempts for a season-best day. Quarterback Brian Hudson added 71 yards and two touchdowns, also recording 160 yards on 15-of-22 passing with two touchdowns and an interception.

Campbell held the Wildcats to just 208 yards of offense. Davidson quarterback Jonathan Carkhuff completed 14-of-25 passing attempts for 115 yards, with seven different receivers catching passes, while David Rogers led the ground attack with 45 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown.

Charlotte defeated MOREHEAD STATE, 61-17
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Charlotte picked up 439 rushing yards and 141 passing yards for a total of 580 en route to a 61-17 victory over Morehead State on Saturday afternoon at Jayne Stadium. The season finale for both programs was the first-ever meeting between the schools.

Freshman running back Brandon Reeves led Morehead State with 120 ground yards on 17 attempts. Freshman quarterback Austin Gahafer finished 31-of-53 for 187 yards and one touchdown. Senior defensive lineman Aaron Meadows registered a career-best 10 tackles in his last game.

MERCER defeated STETSON, 41-14
MACON, Ga. – With history hanging in the balance, the Mercer University football team seized control early in the second half and never looked back, taking down Stetson University 41-14 in front of a standing room only crowd of 12,027 at Mercer University Stadium.

The win gives Mercer 10 victories on the season and sets the NCAA's all-time record for victories by a start-up program, topping Old Dominion's 9-2 record in 2009.

The story of the night was a familiar theme for the year as John Russ turned into the ultimate triple threat with three total touchdowns, including one passing, one rushing and one receiving to propel Mercer to a Homecoming win.

The three scores gave Russ 34 total touchdowns on the year as he put the finishing touches on his resume for the Jerry Rice Award as the top FCS freshman in the land. The offensive mastermind ends the year with 1,916 passing yards and 903 rushing yards.

Stetson quarterback Ryan Tentler completed 13 of 15 passes in the first half for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He finished the game 19-of-28 passing for 138 yards and two touchdowns., while also rushing nine times for 25 yards.
