PFL WEEK 13 HIGHLIGHTS

2013 REGULAR SEASON WRAPS UP | Three games, including a pair of PFL affairs, dot the regular season’s final week, each taking place in the eastern time zone. On the conference front, Davidson returns to action after an off week to host Campbell while the league’s two first-year members square off when Mercer hosts Stetson. In addition, Morehead State puts a bow on its 2013 campaign when it hosts Charlotte in a non-conference tilt.

Series: First Meeting
Notably: Morehead State will conclude its 2013 season when it welcome a revived Charlotte program to Jayne Stadium. The Eagles offense showed improvement with a 27-point performance against PFL co-champion Butler in Week 12, its fifth 20-point outing this season and first since Week 8 at Valparaiso. The 49ers are 1-0 against the PFL this season, posting a 52-7 season-opening win against Campbell.

Notably: The sixth iteration of the PFL’s Battle for North Carolina takes place in Week 13 when Campbell treks westward to meet Davidson. The Camels hold an edge in offense, ranking fourth among PFL teams at 455.7 yards per game in league action against Davidson’s 311.0 yards per game. However, the defensive units are more closely ranked at 9th and 10th among league members, respectively.

Location: Macon, Ga. (University Stadium)
Series: MER leads, 7-1    Streak: MER, six wins
Notably: Stetson travels north for the second consecutive week, this time to revive an old series at Mercer. The two teams played seven times before 1934, with the series starting in 1912. Now, 101 years later they return to the field after reviving their programs this season. Both squads will look to bounce back from Week 12 road losses, Mercer at Marist and Stetson at Jacksonville.

NEWS AND NOTES FROM AROUND THE PFL
BUTLER BACK-TO-BACK | With its win at Morehead State, Nov. 16, Butler clinched a share of its second consecutive PFL title. It was the Bulldogs fourth title all-time, including a share of the 2012 crown. Butler opened the PFL season with four straight wins and concluded the season with three straight wins.

MARIST’S FIRST TITLE | Marist wrapped up its 2013 campaign with five consecutive wins and that was enough to help it claim a share of its first-ever PFL title. The Red Foxes earned their first championship in their fifth season as a member of the PFL.

THE ROAD TO FRISCO | For the first time, the PFL regular-season champion will receive an automatic bid into the Division I Football Championship. The championship will expand to 24 teams this season with 11 automatic bids and 13 at-large berths. The football selection committee will select eight national seeds, which will receive a first-round bye. The remaining 16 teams will be placed into the bracket’s first round spots with an emphasis on geographical proximity.

SAN DIEGO VACATES 2013 PFL SEASON | Prior to Week 12’s action, the University of San Diego announced that its football team would voluntarily vacate the 2013 PFL season, including any potential regular-season title and automatic qualifying bid.

MARIST’S FEDE ADDED TO BUCHANAN WATCH LIST | Marist defensive end Terrence Fede was one of three defensive players named to The Sports Network’s Buck Buchanan Award Watch List, Nov. 15. He is one of just two players in the FCS who has recorded double-digit sacks this season. Montana State’s Brad Daly, a Buchanan Award candidate, is the other. Fede also is second in the nation with 1.2 sacks per game, and has recorded at least half a sack in eight of his 10 games. Fede also is second in the country in tackles for loss behind Daly.

SAN DIEGO’S MILLS NAMED TO PAYTON WATCH LIST | San Diego quarterback Mason Mills was one of three quarterbacks named to The Sports Network’s Payton Award Watch List, Nov. 12. The Sports Network added Southeastern Louisiana’s Bryan Bennett, Princeton’s Quinn Epperly along with Mills to the now 20-man watch list.

MILLS PASSES 11,000-YARD MARK | San Diego quarterback Mason Mills became the second quarterback to record 11,000 yards in PFL history. He finished his career with 11,104 career passing yards and will finish second on the PFL career passing yardage chart behind Jacksonville’s Josh McGregor (11,230 yards).
