LEAGUE RECAPS

JACKSONVILLE defeated STETSON, 45-24
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The instate rivalry between Jacksonville and Stetson is just beginning. Meeting on the football field for the first time ever, the Dolphins scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to pull away from the Hatters and claim a 45-24 victory.

Sophomore running back Frantz Caudio rushed for 195 yards on 19 carries and added a 40 yard receiving touchdown while quarterback Kade Bell went over 300 yards for the fourth straight game to lead Jacksonville (5-6; 4-4). Bell added four touchdowns, including two to junior Andrew Robustelli, who recorded 101 yards and became the first Dolphins player to go over 1,000 receiving in a single season (1,063).

Despite another 600-plus yards of total offense from Jacksonville, it was a defensive play that turned the tide for the Dolphins.

Freshman Charles Jimenez, who was drafted to play baseball by the Seattle Mariners out of high school, curtailed what would have been a go-ahead Stetson score in the final play of the third quarter. With the game tied at 24-24 and the Hatters driving deep into JU territory, Jimenez scooped up an errant pitch from Hatters quarterback Ryan Tentler and raced 60 yards for the score.

Stetson's Ryan Tentler finished the game 19-of-34 passing for 261 yards. He also rushed 11 times for 28 yards. Wide receiver Mike Yonker caught three passes and finished with a team-high 99 yards.

DAYTON defeated VALPARAISO, 45-20
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Dayton scored touchdowns by air, on the ground, by kick return and by pass interception in Saturday's 45-20 win over Valparaiso.

For the seventh time this season, Valparaiso scored the first points of the game. The offense assembled a six-play, 80-yard drive as Eric Hoffman capped it off with a 27-yard toss to Kuramata for a 7-0 lead.

Dayton needed just 50 seconds to respond, however. Quarterback Will Bardo, who was questionable entering Saturday's tilt, hooked up with Gary Hunter for a 72-yard touchdown pass. Dayton kicker William Will hit a 27-yard chip shot towards the end of the first quarter to give the Flyers a 10-7 lead after 15 minutes.

Valparaiso's Jacob Newman knotted the game at 10 apiece with a 28-yard field goal of his own with under nine minutes in the half.

The game remained at a standstill until four minutes to play in the second quarter. On a 2nd-and-6 from his own 30-yard line, Hoffman was picked off by Nick Weston. Weston returned the interception 35 yards for a touchdown and a 17-10 lead. On the following posession, Hoffman and the Crusader offense appeared ready to take advantage of its second opportunity before the end of the half. Valpo was inside the Dayton 40-yard line when Hoffman threw his second interception of the quarter on a 3rd and 6. This one was also taken all the way back for a touchdown. In what seemed like the blink of an eye, Valpo trailed 24-10 and Dayton never looked back.

Hoffman finished the afternoon 26-for-41 for 387 yards and two touchdowns. With his effort Saturday, the redshirt junior put the finishing touches on a noteworthy season.

Gary Hunter became the first player in Dayton history to score four kick return touchdowns in his career when he opend the second half with a 100-yard kickoff return. He finished the game with 280 all-purpose yards, adding six catches for 133 yards and a touchdown along with 18 punt return yards and one rushing yard.
