Saturday, September 21, 2013 Jacksonville, Drake and Mercer each won home games during Week 4 action across the Pioneer Football League. Davidson quarterback Jonathan Carkhuff, who is third among FCS career active leaders in passing yards, became Davidson's all-time passing leader with his 464 yards at Johnson C. Smith moving him to 9,531 career yards. Elsewhere, San Diego and Butler each lost at home, ending two of the nation's longest home winning streaks. PFL SCORES FOR SEPT. 21 (WEEK 4) LEAGUE RECAPS JACKSONVILLE def. WARNER, 69-16 There was an unfamiliar player lining up behind the center for JU on its opening drive. An injury to starting quarterback Kade Bell gave sophomore Steven Hughes his first collegiate start where he looked very comfortable directing JU’s offense down the field. A stellar outing for the young QB, he finished the game 15-for-20 for 269 yards with two touchdowns. MORE>> Jacksonville Recap | Box Score DRAKE def. INDIANAPOLIS, 31-14 Drake (1-2) scored 31 straight points, all but three coming in the second half, to push its way past Indianapolis (2-1), the No. 12 team in Division II. Offensively, the Bulldogs racked up 372 yards of total offense, with 211 coming through the air and 161 on the ground. Junior Gary Scott, Jr. (Forsyth, Ill.) had 117 rushing yards for this third career 100-yard game. Fifth-year senior Nick Rosa (Owasso, Okla.) had two touchdown catches and finished with 107 receiving yards, the fourth time of his career that he has surpassed 100 receiving yards. DAVIDSON, 35-22 Davidson (0-3) was the first to score, but Johnson C. Smith (3-0) scored the next four touchdowns to take control of the game. The Golden Bulls countered Carkhuff's prolific passing by sacking him 13 times for 93 yards, led by Jovantay Williams with 3.5. Anthony Allen also made a game-high 17 tackles for JCSU, including 1.5 sacks. Additionally, the Wildcats turned the ball over on downs twice in the red zone and were penalized 11 times for 127 yards. Carkhuff completed 26 of 39 passing attempts for 464 yards and two touchdowns, becoming Davidson's career passing leader with 9,531 yards. He also moved past current head coach and 2003 graduate Paul Nichols into second place on Davidson's career touchdown list with his 51st and 52nd touchdown passes. Also enjoying career days were William Morris, who caught eight passes for 193 yards and a touchdown, Garrett Diehl, who caught five passes for a career high 79 yards, and #A.J. Pignone# who had career highs rushing for 92 yards and his first career rushing touchdown, as well as catching three passes for 66 yards and his first career receiving touchdown. Mason Mills completed 27-of-46 passes for 293 yards and 1 score. His favorite target was Reggie Bell who hauled in 7 balls for 101 yards and the lone score thru the air, a 12-yarder in the fourth period that made the score 35-20 with 7:27 to go. Kenn James led the Torero ground attack with 68 yards on 13 carries. From special teams, David Last converted both of is field goals (22 & 30 yards) and freshman punter Ryan Belden averaged 46.2 yards on 5 punts. BUTLER, 30-23 Lancaster set Butler single game records with 42 completions and 68 pass attempts, and he finished with a career-best 395 passing yards. He threw a pair of touchdown passes and rushed for a third. And he drove the Bulldogs (2-2) to the Dartmouth 34-yard line in the final minute, before the Big Green defense stopped the final march. The Bulldogs, playing in front of a crowd of 3,194 at the Butler Bowl, rallied from a 30-10 deficit in the final period. Lancaster capped a 13-play, 81-yard drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandon Collins with 7:26 left in the game to trim the Dartmouth lead to 14. BERRY, 43-0 The Bears (3-0) continued their combination of powerful offensive numbers – 513 total yards – and stifling defense – limiting Berry to 68 total offensive yards – to record a second straight shutout and dominate the Vikings. There were also three defensive scores and a host of other momentum turning plays in the game. Big plays, both for and against the Hatters, were the story of the night. Overall, there were more than 10 plays in the game that went for more than 20 yards, and most of those were made by the Panthers, who finished with 487 yards of total offense, including 266 yards rushing. MORE>> Stetson Recap | Box Score EASTERN KENTUCKY def. MOREHEAD STATE, 56-24 Jude, a running back who redshirted in 2012, entered the day with just 73 rushing yards in three games this season. He posted touchdown runs of two, five, 11 and 17 yards in the contest. Eastern Kentucky rolled up 345 rushing yards and 261 passing yards for a season-high total of 606.
