Sunday, October 23, 2005 LAST WEEKS RESULTSWeek 8 Saturday, Oct. 22 Dayton def. Valparaiso, 52-7 Morehead State def. Davidson, 31-13 St. Josephs (Ind.) def. Butler, 23-7 Jacksonville def. Austin Peay, 33-26 San Diego def. Drake, 31-26 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK OFFENSE Scott Phaydavong, Drake Sophomore, Running Back Des Moines, Iowa. (Air Force Prep Academy) Phaydavong attempted to carry Drake on his back, rushing 27 times for a career-high 244 yards and two touchdowns (64 and nine yards). However, it wasnt enough against the league's top-ranked defense as Drake fell 31-26 in PFL North action at San Diego. His performance was the best in I-AA this week and the 8th best rushing performance in I-AA this season. It is Phaydavongs fifth-straight 100-yard plus rushing game and 13th of his career. It also is the second straight season Phaydavong rushed for more than 200 yards against San Diego after netting 209 yards against the Toreros last season. DEFENSE Brandon Cramer, Dayton Sophomore, Safety Toledo, Ohio (Anthony Wayne HS) Cramer made a game-changing play when he recovered a Valparaiso fumble at the 2-yard line and returned it 98-yards for a score. It prevented the Crusaders from closing within seven points and instead gave Dayton a 28-7 halftime lead. Cramer also intercepted a pass and made five tackles in the PFL North contest, which Dayton went on to win, 52-7. CO-SPECIAL TEAMS Ryan Wrobleski, Dayton Senior, Wide Receiver Northville, Mich. (Detroit Central Catholic HS) Wrobleski helped Dayton build an early lead against Valparaiso, returning a punt 86 yards for a touchdown to give the Flyers a 14-0 lead. That punt return is the fourth longest in I-AA this season. At his regular spot as wideout, he added three receptions for 38 yards and ran once for a 29-yard touchdown. -AND- Ryan Horvath, Drake Senior, Punter/Kicker Overland Park, Kan. (Blue Valley North HS) Horvath went 2-for-2 on field goal attempts, making a career-best 45-yarder and a 39-yard field goal. His 45-yard field goal is the third-longest in the PFL this season. On punt duties he booted three punts for 133 yards (44.3 yards per punt), including a 50-yard long punt and placing two inside the 20-yard line. SPECIAL MENTION Chad Davis, Jacksonville Senior, Running Back Tallahassee, Fla. (Florida HS) A first-time award for an unusual circumstance, Davis rushed 14 times for 150 yards as Jacksonville defeated Austin Peay, 33-26 in PFL South action. Normally, not award-worthy, the performance earns special mention because it was the first time Davis had put on a uniform since November 15, 2003 due to injuries a span of nearly two years. It was the ninth best rushing performance in Jacksonville history and his first career 100-yard performance. In the second half, he rushed eight times for 120 yards, including carries of 53-, 25-, and 19-yards.
