SAINT LOUIS – A trio of Pioneer Football League alumni will look to continue their football careers after signing with NFL teams as free agents or accepting invitations to minicamps this week.

Dayton safety Christian Searles and San Diego tight end Ross Dwelley each signed with NFL teams as an undrafted free agents, Monday. Searles will join the Washington Redskins this summer while Dwelley will move up the west coast to suit up with the San Francisco 49ers.  Wednesday saw San Diego defensive end Jonathan Petersen accept an invitation to the Charlotte Panthers rookie minicamp.

They will look to join a growing group of Pioneer Football League alumni playing professionally in the NFL. Marist alums Terrence Fede and Jason Myers played for Miami and Jacksonville, respectively, in 2017. In addition, Drake’s Eric Saubert (Atlanta), San Diego’s Jamal Agnew (Detroit) and Stetson’s Donald Payne (Jacksonville) joined that Marist duo in the 2017 NFL season.  Agnew was an All-Pro selection by the Associated Press, Pro Football Writers of America and Sporting News.
