Pioneer Football League Announces 24th Annual All-PFL Teams
Tuesday, November 29, 2016 by Cody Bush, PFL Media Relations SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Fifty-seven student athletes have been named to the 24th All-Pioneer Football League teams, Tuesday. All selections were made by the league’s coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes.
Stetson senior safety Donald Payne, the league’s Defensive Player of the Year, becomes the seventh PFL athlete to receive First-Team All-PFL honors four times during their career. It has been nearly a decade since the previous four-time honoree – Drake running back Scott Phaydavong (2004-07).
In addition to Payne’s four-time milestone, a quartet of players also earned their third First-Team All-PFL citation with their selection to this season’s squad. Dayton senior linebacker Christopher Beaschler and senior kicker William Will were joined by Jacksonville senior linebacker Grady Redding and Drake senior tight end Eric Saubert as three-time recipients.
A further four 2016 honorees received their second first-team award, each from Dayton: senior offensive lineman Jim Vogel, defensive back Cameron Stubbs, defensive back Christian Searles, senior punter Sean Smith.
Also highlighting the 2016 All-PFL Teams were three unanimous selections, each from league champion San Diego: Riley, Petersen and senior running back Jonah Hodges, the league’s Offensive Player of the Year.
In addition to the 57 student-athletes recognized on the league’s first and second teams, 75 student-athletes received honorable mention recognition.
The Academic All-PFL team, highlighted by the league’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year, will be released Wednesday, concluding the league’s awards week.
