Nine of the Pioneer Football League's members will be in action during Week 3, the final weekend before league play starts. Two of the league's members will appear on ESPN3 this week with the other seven contests available online.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 17

Dayton at Duquesne, Noon

Dayton takes its unbeaten 2016 record onto the road when it meets FCS foe Duquesne, Saturday. The Flyers posted a 13-0 shutout in a weather-shortened contest against Robert Morris in Week 2. Dayton kept Robert Morris out of the red zone in the win and in its first two weeks has permitted opponents just four red zone opportunities. Defensive end Mike Gray, the PFL Defensive Player of the Week, led a Dayton defense that held the Colonials to 62 yards total offense. Quarterback Alex Jeske notched his 11th win as a starter, completing 16-of-31 passes for 221 yards.

McKendree at Drake, 1 p.m.

Drake will seek its first win of 2016 when it hosts Division II McKendree, Saturday. The Bulldogs lost their road opener at nationally-ranked South Dakota State last week, despite a 310-yard offensive effort. Drake did get scoring help from its special teams unit as return specialist Drew Lauer, the PFL Special Teams Player of the Week, returned a kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown. Tight end Eric Saubert caught six passes for 53 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Meanwhile, defensive back Jabari Butler led the defense with 11 tackles (seven solo).

Trinity International at Valparaiso, 2 p.m.

Valparaiso returns to Brown Field to face NAIA foe Trinity International, Saturday, seeking its first win of 2016. A youthful Crusaders squad dropped its road-opener at Sacred Heart last week as the Pioneers’ 28-point second quarter proved the difference. Freshman quarterback Jimmy Seewald threw his first two collegiate touchdowns as part of a 14-for-29, 137-yard performance. Sophomore wideout Jean Rene was the target for one of those touchdowns in a three-reception, 64-yard effort. Sophomore linebacker Drew Snouffer made a career-high 13 tackles (two solo) after entering the game with just 20 career tackles.

Marist at Sacred Heart, 5 p.m.

Marist will look to be the first team to hand Sacred Heart a loss when it travels to the Pioneers in Week 3. The Red Foxes saw their season’s first victory denied them by a Georgetown fourth-quarter touchdown last week. Sacred Heart improved to 2-0 this season with a second straight win against a PFL team, downing Stetson in Week 1 and Valparaiso last week. Marist quarterback Mike White bounced back from a tough Week 1, completing 15-of-36 passes for 234 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions against Georgetown. His 29-yard touchdown pass to Jon Kanda gave Marist a 17-13 lead late in the third quarter.  Free safety Wes Beans had a team-best seven tackles and an interception that led to Marist’s first touchdown.

Presbyterian at Campbell, 6 p.m.

Campbell will look for a 3-0 start to 2016 when it hosts FCS foe Presbyterian, Saturday. The Camels offense has gotten off to a spectacular start this season, posting 106 points in its first two games, including 47 in its Week 2 win at Chowan. Those 106 points are the most in the first two games of a season in program history. Wide receiver Aaron Blockmon, the PFL Offensive Player of the Week, posted a school-record 180 receiving yards and four touchdown catches in the victory. Freshman quarterback Elijah Burress completed 18-of-23 passes for 263 yards and four touchdowns. Campbell’s defense limited Chowan to 11 net yards rushing and 233 total offensive yards on only 50 plays.

Lincoln (Pa.) at Morehead State, 6 p.m.

Morehead State seeks its season’s first victory when it hosts Division II Lincoln (Pa.). The Eagles surrendered two early touchdowns in a Week 2 home-opening loss to VMI. Quarterback Austin Gahafer completed 28-of-51 passes for 251 yards and moved past the 9,000-career yard mark – he enters Week 3 with 9,095 career yards. Wide receiver Jake Raymond caught six passes and finished the day with 211 career receptions, third most in PFL history. Defensively, Ryan Bennett and Kameron Able each had 12 tackles to pace the Eagles.

Edward Waters at Jacksonville, 7 p.m.

Jacksonville opens the home portion of its 2016 schedule when it hosts Division II Edward Waters, Saturday. The Dolphins will look to take a step forward following its season-opening loss at Liberty last week. Jacksonville committed four turnovers in the contest, each leading the a Liberty score (20 points). JU quarterback Rylan Wells completed 11-of-19 passes for 126 yards in the loss. Running back Ulysses Bryant had 75 rushing yards on 13 carries.

Butler at Taylor, 7 p.m.

Butler concludes its nonconference slate with a trip to NAIA foe Taylor, Saturday.  The Bulldogs got into the win column during Week 2 with a home victory against Franklin. Running back Duvante Lane scored three touchdowns on 12 carries totalling 104 yards in the win. He paced a ground game that amassed 254 yards. Quarterback Malcolm Weaver completed 16-of-23 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns. Defensive back Adam Chappelle nabbed a pair of interceptions and returned one six yards for a touchdown to set the game’s final score.

Livingstone at Davidson, 7 p.m.

Davidson opens its home slate when it hosts Division II Livingstone, Saturday.  The Wildcats return to North Carolina after notching a victory at Kentucky Wesleyan during Week 2. Freshman running back Keylan Brown rushed for 95 yards on 18 carries during that contest and scored his first collegiate touchdown. He led a DC running attack that amassed 215 yards and three touchdowns. Ryan Leak had five tackles and returned an interception 40 yards to set up another Davidson touchdown.
