BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell’s Sam Eberwein has been named a recipient of the NCAA’s 2012-13 fall postgraduate scholarship.

Eberwein is one of 29 male and 29 female fall sports student-athletes across all divisions of the NCAA receiving $7,500 towards postgraduate studies. Similar awards are given each season to winter and spring student-athletes, totaling 174 individual winners.

To qualify, student-athletes must excel academically and athletically, be in their final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate study. Student-athletes must also maintain at least a 3.2 grade-point average and be nominated by their institution’s faculty athletics representative.

Created in 1964, NCAA postgraduate scholarships promote and encourage education by rewarding the Association’s most accomplished student-athletes.

Eberwein was named to the FCS Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star team and the College Sports Journal FCS All-Academic squads in January, one of 54 in the nation.

A senior placekicker, Eberwein was also a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's Scholar-Athlete Award this season, as well as First Team Academic All-District 3 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and First Team Academic All-PFL. Eberwein owned a perfect 4.00 GPA during his undergraduate work, and holds a 3.67 in his graduate program. Eberwein was a perfect 21-for-21 on extra point attempts this season and connected on 3-of-9 field goal tries with a long of 41.

A four-time PFL All-Academic selection, Eberwein is President of Campbell's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a CU representative at the Big South's Leadership Conference, a CU Pharmacy and Presidential Scholar and a multiple recipient of the Campbell Scholar-Athlete Award, among others, while enrolled in the Campbell Dr. of Pharmacy & MBA joint degree program.
