Pioneer Football League Names 20th Annual Academic All-PFL Teams

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Fifty Pioneer Football League student-athletes have been selected to the 20th annual Academic All-PFL teams, as selected by the league’s sports information directors.

There are seven repeat selections to the league’s academic squads. Drake senior linebacker Tyler Moorehead became the 28th student-athlete to receive first-team Academic All-PFL honors three times during their career. Campbell junior running back Kurt Odom, San Diego offensive lineman Matthew Peleti, San Diego defensive back Robbie Beathard, Campbell linebacker Colten Burris, San Diego defensive lineman Blake Oliaro and Morehead State kicker Rainer Duzan earned first-team honors for the second consecutive season.

Butler junior defensive back Jayme Szafranski was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Football Teams, last Thursday. He was one of a group of 16 student-athletes who were named to their respective Capital One Academic All-District teams in November.

Pioneer Football League athletic directors established the Academic All-PFL squads in 1993 as a way to recognize the league’s outstanding student-athletes. To be eligible for Academic All-PFL consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 on a scale of 4.00 and reached sophomore standing both athletically and academically at his current institution.
