Jacksonville was the lone team to win on the road during the opening weekend of Pioneer Football League play. Butler, Drake, Marist and San Diego each won at home to open the 20th league slate.

BUTLER def. CAMPBELL, 35-14
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Junior Trae Heeter ran for a career-best 204 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help Butler score a 35-14 PFL victory against Campbell, Saturday at the Butler Bowl. Heeter scored the game's first touchdown and finished the day with 21 carries, including a 79-yard dash for a touchdown in the third quarter. Butler out-gained Campbell, 452-365, in a game that saw both teams rush for 200 yards – Butler winning that battle by a 284-206 margin. Campbell broke through late in the second quarter with the first of two junior Kurt Odom touchdown runs. He would add the Fighting Camels second touchdown just before the final gun. Junior quarterback Dakota Wolf carried the ball 31 times for 111 yards and completed 17-of-23 passes for 159 yards to finish the day with 270 total offensive yards for the Camels.

MARIST def. DAVIDSON, 34-21
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Senior wideout Michael Rios set a single-game school record with 244 receiving yards and tied another record with three touchdowns to lead Marist past Davidson, 34-21, in Saturday PFL action at Tenney Stadium. Red Foxes quarterback Chuckie Looney recorded the program's second-ever 400-yard passing game, completing 17-of-26 passes for 403 yards and four touchdowns. Looney found Rios for a pair of long-distance touchdowns that did the biggest damage. The first was an 80-yard connection that gave Marist a 14-8 lead it would not relinquish. They later connected for Marist's final touchdown, a 71-yard catch and carry that put the game out of reach. Davidson junior quarterback Jonathan Carkhuff completed 25-of-45 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns, but could not keep pace. Wildcats senior linebacker Patrick Moynahan had a busy afternoon, posting a school-record 22 tackles in the loss.

JACKSONVILLE def. DAYTON, 21-17
DAYTON, Ohio – Senior Colby Walden returned a kickoff 85 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown to push Jacksonville past Dayton, 21-17, in Saturday PFL action at Welcome Stadium. The kickoff return quickly turned the tables after Dayton completed a 12-play, 58-yard drive with a sophomore Will Bardo touchdown pass to freshman Ross Smith for a touchdown that put Dayton up 20-17 with 1:39 remaining. Dayton won the offensive battle by a 388-252 margin in total yardage, but could not overcome an interception returned for a touchdown and the game-winning kickoff return. Jacksonville freshman quarterback Kade Bell completed 15-of-24 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown. Bardo led Dayton's offense with a 22-of-48, 192-yard passing effort.

DES MOINES, Iowa – A battle of the PFL's top passing teams met expectations as Drake scored 21 fourth-quarter points to down Morehead State, 28-25, in PFL action, Saturday at Drake Stadium. Senior quarterback Mike Piatkowski became Drake's all-time passing leader with a 29-of-41, 269-yard performance that left him with 8,106 career passing yards and moved him past Ira Vandever's 2002 school record (7,868 yards). Morehead State senior quarterback Zach lewis threw his school-record 56th career touchdown as part of a 21-of-28, 172-yard passing day. Morehead State took a 17-7 lead into the fourth quarter but watched as Drake reeled off 21 consecutive points in the fourth quarter, including a pair of Piatkowski touchdown passes. The Eagles closed to within a field goal with 1:52 left when Rees Macshara scored a touchdown on a four-yard dash. Morehead State's defense forced a punt with 1:35 remaining, but the Eagles final offensive drive came to an end when Drake linebacker Tyler Moorehead intercepted a pass to end the threat.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – San Diego scored the game's first 37 points to open its PFL campaign with a 51-14 victory over Valparaiso, Saturday at Torero Stadium. San Diego quarterback Mason Mills passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as part of a 218-yard offensive outing. Toreros running back Kenn James added another touchdown as part of a 12-carry, 128-yard outing. Valparaiso sophomore quarterback Eric Hoffman was busy, completing 34-of-55 passes for 284 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
