Five PFL players named to CFPA Defensive Line preseason watch list

CHARLOTTE – Five Pioneer Football League athletes – Dayton's Brannon Dunn, Drake's Brandon Coleman, Jacksonville's Mike Mayoral, Marist's Terrence Fede and San Diego's Blake Oliaro – were named to the 2012 College Football Performance Awards preseason watch list at defensive line, the organization announced Monday.

San Diego's Oliaro was the PFL's Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-PFL selection in 2011 as a redshirt sophomore. He finished the season ranked fourth among FCS athletes with 1.36 sacks per game (15 sacks in 11 games) and was ranked 10th nationally with 1.77 tackles for loss per game (19.5 total).

Drake's Coleman and Marist's Fede each were second-team All-PFL selections as juniors last season.  Coleman was ranked third among PFL players with 1.09 sacks per game (12 in 11 games) and fifth with 1.50 tackles for loss per game (16.5 total). Fede ended the campaign ranked second among all PFL defensive lineman with 8.5 tackles per game (72 in 11 games) while ranking sixth in tackles for loss (1.45 pg) and eighth in sacks (0.77 pg).

Dayton's Dunn and Jacksonville's Mayoral were both honorable mention All-PFL picks last season. Dunn was ranked ninth among PFL players in sacks (0.73 pg) and was one of 10 PFL players to force multiple fumbles last season, ending the campaign with three fumbles forced. Mayoral was ranked among the league's leaders in sacks (10th, 0.72 pg) and tackles for loss (14th, 0.89 pg).

The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
