RICHMOND, Va. – Davidson saw its season come to an end in the first round of the NCAA Division I Football Championship, falling 41-0 to Richmond, Saturday at Robins Stadium.

Davidson (8-4) nearly broke through on the scoreboard twice in the second quarter after driving deep into Richmond territory. On the Wildcats first drive of the quarter they methodically worked their way to the Richmond 27-yard line in 10 plays but back-to-back incomplete passes ended the drive on downs.

Davidson’s best chance came on its second drive of the quarter as Jayden Waddell completed a 47-yard pass to Aaron Maione to get into Richmond territory. Maione later broke out for a 26-yard run and Davidson was inside the Richmond 10-yard line. Davidson saw back-to-back carries result in no net gain before Richmond intercepted a third-down pass to end the threat.

Richmond (9-3) scored on its first two drives with Aaron Dykes scoring on a 12-yard run and Andrew Lopez providing a 35-yard field goal to end the first quarter 10-0. The Spiders broke the game open with a 17-point second quarter that saw Reece Udinski throw touchdown passes to Jakob Herres and Jerry Garcia Jr. in front of a Jake Larson 46-yard field goal for a 27-0 lead at halftime.

Waddel completed 7-of-13 passes for 103 yards and added 17 yards on the ground to lead Davidson’s offense. Maione finished with 32 rushing yards and 47 receiving yards on the day.

Udinski completed 28-of-31 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns. Milan Howard scored two touchdowns in the second half as part of his 12-carry, 73-yard outing.
