POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist improved to 4-0 in PFL Play as wide receiver Juston Christian caught six passes for 136 yards and a touchdown in a 31-10 victory against Davidson, Saturday, at Tenney Stadium.
Christian's 136-yard outing was his third consecutive 100-yard receiving performance and included a 83-yard touchdown reception with 5:42 left in the third quarter gave Marist a 28-3 lead. The Red Foxes jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter as quarterback Mike White scored on a one-yard rush and running back Marcellus Calhoun followed with a three-yard rushing touchdown.
Davidson would get a 33-yard field goal from Trevor Smith to get on the board early in the second quarter. However, the Wildcats would not score again until Kahleel Shaw scored a touchdown from three-yards out with 12:55 left in the fourth quarter.
White led Marist with a 16-for-25, 262-yard passing effort that included two touchdown passes and his touchdown carry. Davidson quarterback Stockton McGuire amassed 173 total offensive yards, including 76 yards on 14 carries.
Jacksonville 61, Morehead State 49
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Jacksonville scored 30 second half points, rallying for a 61-49 PFL victory against Morehead State, Saturday at Jayne Stadium in a game that saw the two teams combine for 1,180 yards.
Morehead State's Trevor Jones rushed for three first-half touchdowns, including a one-yard burst with 3:06 left in the second quarter that gave MSU a 35-28 lead. He finished the game with four touchdowns while rushing for 284 yards – 29 yards shy of the PFL record – on 24 carries.
However, Jacksonville would score the next 17 points, including two touchdowns from its defense and special teams. The Dolphins took the lead on Prince Gray's 70-yard punt return for a touchdown. Seven minutes later Grady Redding added to the lead with a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown and 45-35 advantage it would not relinquish.
Quarterback Rylan Wells led Jacksonville's offense with 227 total offensive yards and three touchdowns. He completed 13-of-21 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns and added a touchdown on 12 carries for 62 yards.
Morehead State quarterback Austin Gahafer completed 17-of-37 passes for 266 yards, but had just one touchdown pass. The Eagles rushing game, led by Jones, amassed 316 yards on 35 carries and scored six touchdowns.
Dayton 31, Butler 16
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Quarterback Alex Jeske threw three touchdown passes to pace Dayton in a 31-16 PFL victory against Butler, Saturday at the Butler Bowl.
Jeske put the Flyers up 14-0 in the first quarter with a pair of touchdown passes. His 24-yard strike to Jack Euritt opened the scoring and a 23-yard scoring pass to Ryan Skibinski extended the lead to 14-0. After a Butler field goal, Jeske added to the Flyers lead with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Ian Palin.
Butler would tack on two touchdowns late in the contest as Malcolm Weaver passed for a touchdown and Anthony Scaccia added a rushing touchdown to set the final score. Butler nearly matched Dayton offensively, trailing by a 384-359 margin in yardage, but could not overcome three turnovers.
Jeske completed 21-of-35 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown while tacking on 54 rushing yards on six carries, ending the day with 326 total offensive yards. Euritt caught eight passes for 136 yards and a touchdown.
Weaver completed 17-of-31 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Pace Temple caught six passes for 90 yards.
Stetson 30, Campbell 24
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Stetson's special teams unit returned a blocked field goal 87 yards for a touchdown to secure a 30-24 PFL overtime victory against Campbell, Saturday, at Barker-Lane Stadium.
Campbell rallied from a 24-10 fourth-quarter deficit to force the extra period. Quarterback Anthony Robbins marshalled the Camels to two touchdowns in just over two minutes to tie the game. First, he capped a 13-play, 71-yard drive when he found Trey Sanders for a 10-yard touchdown. After a quick Stetson three-and-out, Robbins led a six-play, 27-yard drive that ended with a six-yard pass to Aaron Blockman. Robbins and Blockman then connected on a two-point coversion to force overtime.
In the extra period, Campbell saw a touchdown negated by an offensive pass interference penalty. After Robbins completed a 12-yard pass on third down, James Blackman set up for a 30-yard field goal try. However, Stetson's Donald Payne blocked the kick and Jeb Boudreaux picked up the ball at the 13-yard line and sprinted for the end zone. After 85 yards, he was caught from behind but lateraled the ball to Payne, who scrambled the final two yards for the winning score.
Stetson won despite being outgained, 335-294, thanks to that special teams touchdown and an earlier fumble recovery in the end zone for a touchdown. Quarterback Cole Mazza pieced together 197 total offensive yards while throwing for a touchdown and running for another.
Campbell quarterback Anthony Robbins completed 29-of-47 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns. The Camels run game was held to 102 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries.
San Diego 49, Valparaiso 10
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Anthony Lawrence threw a career-high five touchdowns at San Diego swamped Valparaiso, 49-10, in Saturday PFL action at Torero Stadium.
Before Lawrence found his stride, San Diego erased an early 3-0 deficit courtesy a pair of first quarter touchdowns. Running back Jonah Hodges gave San Diego the lead with his six-yard touchdown run and two minutes later Jamal Agnew scampered for a 63-yard punt return for a 14-3 lead.
Lawrence then supplied San Diego's next five touchdowns, connecting with four different receivers to build a 49-3 lead. He would finish the day completed 22-of-32 passes for five touchdowns.
Valparaiso would set the final score when quarterback Jimmy Seewald found Kyle Cartaled for a five-yard touchdown with 9:35 left. Seewald completed 14-of-26 passes for 200 yards in the contest.
