What We Know After Week 11

• St. Thomas, in its second year as a NCAA Division I FCS member, has clinched a share of the 2022 PFL regular-season title.
• Dayton took control of the PFL automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs with its win and losses by both Butler and Davidson.
• Dayton claims the automatic bid with a win against Davidson in Week 12.
• If Davidson defeats Dayton it claims the PFL’s automatic bid for a third consecutive year.

Valparaiso 45, Marist 24
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Aaron Dawson ran for two touchdowns and caught another to lead Valparaiso past Marist, 45-25, in Saturday PFL action at Tenney Stadium. Dawson, who finished with 235 all-purpose yards, opened the game’s scoring with a one-yard score. The Beacons would tack on 17 points in the second quarter as Michael Appel Jr. threw for one touchdown and ran for another to open up a 24-3 halftime lead. Dawson added a 23-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter and tacked on a 62-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. Dawson had 27 carries for 199 yards in the victory. Marist quarterback Brock Bagozzi completed 31-of-55 passes for 397 yards and two touchdowns but also was intercepted twice.

Dayton 49, Morehead State 27
DAYTON, Ohio – On a snowy day at Welcome Stadium, Jake Chisholm ran for 205 yards and two touchdowns as Dayton swamped Morehead State, 49-27, in PFL action, Saturday. Morehead State closed within four points, 21-17, at halftime on Nathan Hazlett’s 44-yard field goal. The Flyers extended their lead on Chisholm’s second touchdown with 8:09 left in the third quarter. But it was back-to-back touchdown passes from Shane Hamm to Cade Beam to open the fourth quarter that broke the game open, 42-20, halfway through the fourth quarter. Hamm threw for three touchdowns as part of his 12-of-18, 118-yard passing performance and he added 112 yards on the ground. Morehead State’s James Louis ran for 195 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.

St. Thomas 23, Stetson 0
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Cade Sexauer ran for a touchdown and threw another while St. Thomas’ defense held Stetson to 113 offensive yards in a 23-0 PFL victory, Saturday, at O'Shaughnessy Stadium. Shawn Shipman opened the scoring with his three-yard touchdown run with 4:47 left in the first quarter. Sexauer would extend the Tommies lead to 17-0 with his one-yard touchdown run with 3:59 in the second half. His 10-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Rink then provided the second half’s only points with 3:19 left in the third quarter. Sexauer completed 8-of-17 passes for 123 yards and ran for another 60 yards. Stetson’s Brady Meitz was limited to 75 passing yards on 13-of-29 passing.

Drake 27, Butler 24
DES MOINES, Iowa – Luke Williams’ 22-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining lifted Drake to a 27-24 PFL victory against Butler, Saturday, at Drake Stadium. Drake charged out to a 17-7 first-quarter lead behind Dorian Boyland’s three-yard touchdown run and Davion Cherwin’s 31-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Butler closed the deficit to three points, 24-21, when Bret Bushka connected with Tyler Adams for a 32-yard touchdown that was the third quarter’s only score. After Luka Zurak’s 33-yard field goal tied the game with 4:52 left, the Butler defense forced a three-and-out. But the ensuing Butler drive was ended as Tanner Pollock intercepted a pass and returned it 24 yards into Butler territory. Five plays later, Williams hit what proved to be the game-winning field goal. Buska completed 25-of-36 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns but also was intercepted twice. Luke Bailey led Drake with a 15-of-31, 178-yard passing performance that included a touchdown.

San Diego 31, Davidson 14
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Re-al Mitchell ran for two touchdowns and 127 yards as San Diego downed Davidson, 31-14, in Saturday PFL action at Torero Stadium. Davidson struck first as Jaylen Waddell connected with Mark McCurdy for a three-yard touchdown pass. But Mitchell promptly tied the game with a 75-yard touchdown run on the second play of San Diego’s ensuing drive. He would add a two-yard touchdown run with 5:07 left in the first half to give San Diego a 14-7 lead. Adam Lehman’s 39-yard field goal have San Diego a 24-7 halftime lead they would not relinquish. Waddell completed 15-of-20 passes for 212 yards and a touchdown to pace Davidson’s offense.
