ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Pioneer Football League’s football communications directors named Dayton senior running back Jake Chisholm the league’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Wednesday, leading a group of 53 student-athletes named to the 29th Academic All-PFL teams, announced Wednesday.

Chisholm, of Union, Kentucky was a unanimous First Team Academic All-PFL selection and was a First Team All-PFL pick as both a running back and all-purpose back this season. A pre-medicine major – with minors in Chemistry, Biology, and Medicine – he owns a 3.98 grade-point average. Chisholm also is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America© honoree and is again a nominee is 2021 after earning Academic All-District honors earlier this month.

On the field, Chisholm is the FCS’ No. 2 all-purpose runner in 2021 averaging 163.90 all-purpose yards per game. He was ranked among the FCS Top 12 in rushing yards (1,033), rushing touchdowns (an FCS best 14), and rushing yards per game (103.3). Chisholm also tacked on 245 yards in kick returns, averaging 20.4 yards per return (54th in the FCS). He was one of 25 finalists for the Stats Perform FCS Walter Payton Award, presented annually to the subdivision’s offensive player of the year.

Pioneer Football League athletic directors established the Academic All-PFL squads in 1993 as a way to recognize the league’s outstanding student-athletes. To be eligible for Academic All-PFL consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, reach his second season academically, and played at least one full season at his current institution.
