WEEK 1 RECAPS

Bucknell 45, Marist 6
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Marcellus Calhoun scored in the second quarter but Marist could not overcome an early deficit in a 45-6 nonconference loss to Bucknell, Saturday, at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Calhoun's four-yard scoring run capped a 16-play, 97-yard drive by the Red Foxes. However, Bucknell scored the game's first 35 points, including two defensive touchdowns, to build an early lead it would not relinquish. Marist quarterback Mike White completed 13-of-32 passes for 122 yards while Calhoun ran for 36 yards in the contest. 

Sacred Heart 42, Stetson 3
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Stetson's offense could not get on track in a 42-3 nonconference loss to Sacred Heart, Saturday, at Campus Field. The Hatters, who endured a difficult week after the loss of teammate Nick Blakely during the week, were held to 145 offensive yards. Quarterback Colin McGovern completed 13-of-23 passes for 127 yards to pace the offense. Kicker Jonny Messina connected on a 36-yard field goal for the Hatters. Sacred Heart scored five times on the ground, with Kevin Duke scored three touchdowns.

San Diego 34, Western New Mexico 20
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – San Diego had to overcome a two score deficit to post a 34-20 nonconference victory against Western New Mexico, Saturday, at Torero Stadium. Trailing 13-0, Toreros quarterback Anthony Lawrence found Justin Priest for a 58-yard touchdown to start the comeback. Kicker Patrick Miller closed the first quarter with a 32-yard field goal before Zach Nelson gave San Diego the lead for good with a one-yard touchdown run with 56 seconds left in the first half. Lawrence completed 15-fo-28 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns to lead San Diego's offense which finished with 339 offensive yards. 

Montana 45, Valparaiso 23
MISSOULA, Mont. – Valparaiso's Tramone Duncan threw for two touchdowns as Valparaiso led late in the second quarter but could not hold on in a 45-23 nonconference loss to Montana, Saturday, at Grizzly Stadium. Duncan gave the Crusaders a 13-10 lead in the second quarter when he found Donny Navarro for a 33-yard touchdown. Valparaiso kicker Dimitrios Lastonas made three field goals, including a 44-yarder late in the fourth quarter. Duncan came off the bench to complete 8-of-14 passes for 150 yards, with Griffin Norberg catching four passes for 104 yards and a touchdown.

Robert Morris 13, Dayton 10
Moon Township, Pa. – Dayton scored the game's first 10 points but could not hold on as a late field goal sent Robert Morris on to a 13-10 nonconference victory, Saturday, at Joe Walton Stadium. Dayton quarterback Kyle Kaparos, making his first start, threw a 16-yard touchdown strike to Matt Tunnacliffe for an early 7-0 lead that kicker Patrick Sandler extended with a 25-yard field goal in the second quarter. But Robert Morris responded with the game's next 13 points and kicker Nick Bisceglia's 26-yard field goal with four second left provided the game-winning points. Kaparos completed 13-of-18 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown while running back Tucker Yinger amassed 107 yards on 24 carries.

Illinois State 45, Butler 0
NORMAL, Ill. – Butler could not get traction against nationally-ranked Illinois State, dropping a 45-0 nonconference decision at Hancock Stadium, Saturday. The Bulldogs offense was held to 41 yards, quarterback Will Marty completing 8-of-23 passes for 41 yards. Illinois State quarterback Jake Kolbe completed 18-of-29 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Redbirds offense.

South Dakota 77, Drake 7
DES MOINES, Iowa – Tyler Updegraff ran for a touchdown but it wasn't enough as Drake fell to South Dakota, 77-7, Saturday night at Drake Stadium. Updegraff's one-yard touchdown run capped an 11-play, 80-yard drive. However, South Dakota quarterback Chris Streveler threw five touchdown passes and ran for another score – all in the first half – to pace the Coyotes 602-yard outing.

Davidson 30, Brevard 7
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Stockton McGuire, Wesley Dugger and Kahleel Shaw each ran for scores as Davidson opened its 2017 campaign with a 30-7 nonconference victory against Brevard, Saturday, at Richardson Stadium. The Wildcats opened the game with a safety before McGuire, Duggar and Shaw's touchdown runs accounted for the next 21 points. Duggar ran for 196 yards on 31 carries and added a fourth-quarter touchdown to his tally.
