Mark Pappas, Morehead State

Pappas threw for three touchdowns and ran for another in Morehead State’s season-opening 44-7 nonconference victory against Union (Ky.). Playing less than three full quarters, the redshirt sophomore completed 15-of-21 passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns (213.0 pass efficiency rating). Pappas only rushed once in the contest but that run was a one-yard burst for a touchdown. He led the Eagles on two scoring drives of 90-plus yards in his shortened outing.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Vaughn Taylor Jr., Morehead State
Junior | Defensive End Washington, D.C.
Taylor had six tackles, including 3.5 for a loss, in Morehead State’s 44-7 nonconference win against Union (Ky.). The Eagles leader in tackles for loss in 2018 picked up where he left off, quickly posting 3.5 in the season-opener. He also had a quarterback sack, broke up a pass and was credited with a quarterback hurry. The sack helped keep Union off the scoreboard late in the third quarter, coming on 3rd-and-Goal to deny a score with Union missing a field goal attempt on the next play.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Michael Armstead, San Diego
Senior | Wide Receiver Monterey, California
Armstead led all FCS return specialists with 221 combined kick return yards in San Diego’s 52-34 defeat at Cal Poly. He had six kick returns totaling 183 yards with four of his returns going for more than 30 yards. Armstead also had a 38-yard punt return on the final punt of the contest. His effort helped San Diego average a starting field position on its own 34-yard line in the contest.
