WEEK 11 PREVIEW
The 2011 regular-season race comes to a conclusion, Saturday, with a share of the PFL Championship still available. JACKSONVILLE travels to SAN DIEGO with the winner earning a share of the 2011 title. The Dolphins have won the last three meetings in the series, including a 35-28 decision last season in Jacksonville. It will feature a battle of the league’s two most efficient quarterbacks. Jacksonville’s Josh McGregor leads the league in passing yards per game (277.2) and pass efficiency (169.5) while San Diego’s Mason Mills is fifth in yardage (196.4) and second in pass efficiency (144.8). Both team’s defenses will be tested San Diego boasting the league’s third rated defense in yardage allowed (201.2 ypg) while Jacksonville’s defense leads the league in pass defense efficiency (111.7), intercepting a league-best 16 passes  BUTLER will travel to MOREHEAD STATE with both teams licking their wounds after late losses in Week 10. The Bulldogs lost to league-leading Jacksonville, which scored 17 fourth-quarter points. The Eagles lost to Davidson, which scored the go-ahead touchdown with 44 seconds remaining. Butler kicker David Lang booted his 34th career field goal at Jacksonville, becoming the program’s all-time field goal leader. Morehead State quarterback Zach Lewis threw for 338 yards in his team’s loss but became the first quarterback in program history to pass for 3,000 yards Two teams that saw long losing streaks stopped in Week 10 will meet this week when VALPARAISO visits DAVIDSON. Valparaiso ended its 29-game losing streak – and a 23-game PFL losing streak – with a win against Campbell. Crusaders quarterback Eric Hoffman posted his third 300-yard effort and threw four touchdowns in the win. DAVIDSON downed Morehead State in Week 10 to end a seven-game PFL losing streak. Wildcats wideout Lanny Funsten caught nine passes for 86 yards, including two touchdown receptions in the win against the Eagles  CAMPBELL will close out its schedule with a non-conference tilt against Georgia State at the Georgia Dome. The Fighting Camels saw their school record five-game win streak stopped with a loss to Valparaiso but will finish fourth in the PFL race in just their fourth season of intercollegiate football. Campbell boasted a pair of 100-yard rushers in its Week 10 loss, Carl Smith running for 137 yards on 20 carries and C.J. Oates added 103 yards on 17 carries.

DRAKE won a share of the 2011 PFL Championship with a 7-1 mark. It is the Bulldogs fifth PFL title and first since the 2004 season when they defeated Morehead State in the PFL Championship Game. Drake won its first three PFL contests before falling at San Diego. The Bulldogs recovered and won their final four PFL contests and finished the campaign with an unblemished home mark (4-0).

PFL NEWS AND NOTES
JACKSONVILLE–SAN DIEGO IN SHOWDOWN FOR PFL TITLE SHARE | Jacksonville and San Diego meet in a regular-season finale that will determine a share of the 2011 PFL title– the winner will join Drake as league co-champions. San Diego is seeking its fourth PFL title and first since the 2007 season. Jacksonville is seeking its second consecutive title and third in the last four seasons.
JACKSONVILLE’S MCGREGOR GRABS PFL TOUCHDOWN MARK | Jacksonville’s Josh McGregor threw three touchdown passes against Butler in Week 10 and finished the game with 115 career touchdown throws. He broke the career touchdown mark of 114 previous held by San Diego’s Josh Johnson (113, 2004-07). McGregor needs 14 completions and 386 total offensive yards in the regular-season finale at San Diego to clamin the league’s career completions mark both held by Johnson (775 completions, 11,563 total offensive yards).
SAN DIEGO’s JAMES AMONG NATION’S TOP ALL-PURPOSE RUNNER | San Diego running back/return specialist Kenny James enters the final regular-season week as the FCS’ second-ranked all-purpose runner, averaging 205.00 yards per game.  He is ranked 21st nationally in rushing yardage (102.7 ypg), 33rd nationally in kickoff return yardage (24.65 ypg) and has added 25.9 receiving yards per game this season. James’ 2,050 all-purpose yards this season ranks as the fifth-best single-season performance in PFL history. The PFL record is 2,262 yards by Butler’s Arnold Mickens during the 1994 season.
LONG-TIME DAYTON ASSISTANT WHILDING RETIRES | Dayton offensive coordinator Dave Whilding announced his retirement at the conclusion of the 2011 season, Friday, before the Flyers contest at Drake. He completed his 35th season on the Dayton coaching staff, the last 31 yards coaching the team’s quarterbacks and 29 yards as its offensive coordinator.
CRUSADERS’ HOFFMAN TAPPED FOR NATIONAL HONOR | Valparaiso freshman quarterback Eric Hoffman was named a Week 10 FCS National Player of the Week by The Sports Network, earning Freshman Player of the Week honors. Hoffman played a key part in ending the Crusaders 29-game losing streak, completing 30-of-40 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-31 victory against Campbell.
VALPARAISO LOSING STREAK ENDS ON SENIOR DAY | Valparaiso saw its 29-game losing streak come to an end fittingly on Senior Day at Brown Stadium – a Week 10 victory against Campbell. Ironically, the Crusaders losing streak started after a 47-14 victory against the Fighting Camels – then in their first year as a Division I program – when the current crop of seniors would have been freshmen on the roster. Valparaiso avoided becoming one of just five programs to record a 30-game losing streak in FCS history. The win also snapped a 23-game PFL losing streak.
DAVIDSON HALTS SMALLER PFL LOSING STREAK | Davidson also ended its own seven-game PFL losing streak with a Week 10 home victory against Morehead State.   The Wildcats lost their final PFL game to San Diego last season and had yet to post a victory in 2011.
MERCER UNVEILS PLANS FOR NEW FOOTBALL COMPLEX | Mercer, which will join the PFL in 2013, unveiled its plans for a new football and lacrosse complex – to be named the Tony and Nancy Moye Family Football and Lacrosse Complex – during its Homecoming celebrations, Nov. 11. Excavation work began six weeks ago and the facility is expected to be completed early next fall, in time to accommodate practices for the program’s first recruiting class.
