Dayton senior safety James Vercammen was named to The Sports Network/Fathead.com Football Championship Subdivision Preseason All-America First Team, the organization announced, Monday. Jacksonville junior wideout Josh Philpart, Butler junior wide receiver Zach Watkins and Drake senior defensive end Dain Taylor were each named third team selections.

It is the fifth preseason honor for Dayton's Vercammen who earlier this summer was named to The Sports Network's Buchanan Award Watch List. He posted a Pioneer Football League single-season record 134 tackles last season and was a first-team All-PFL selection. Vercammen recorded more than 10 tackles in eight of the Flyers 11 games, including a 19-tackle, 1.5-tackle for loss effort against San Diego.
Philpart led Jacksonville's receiving corps last season with 54 receptions for 912 yards and 13 touchdowns. He ranked third in both receptions per game (5.6) and receiving yards per game (82.9). His 13 touchdown catches the most in the PFL in 2009.
Watkins led Butler and the PFL with 78 receptions last season. He finished his sophomore campaign with 927 receiving yards and 10 touchdown catches. His 6.5 receptions per game were the most in the PFL and ranked 21st nationally.
Taylor was a first-team All-PFL selection for Drake last season after posting 48 tackles. He led the PFL in both tackles for loss (19.5 total, 1.77 pg) and quarterback sacks (10.5 total, 0.95 pg). Taylor finished the year ranked third nationally in tackles for loss per game and sixth in quarterback sacks per game.
