» Back

SAINT LOUIS, Mo.  – The Pioneer Football League announced today its 17th annual Academic All-PFL squads. Forty-nine student-athletes were named to the two squads, Dayton landing a league-best 13 student-athletes on the two teams.

The Pioneer Football League saw three student-athletes receive 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® recognition. Valparaiso’s Adam Rundh and Dayton’s Brandon Wingeier received first-team recognition. Meanwhile, Butler’s Grant Hunter earned second team recognition. The Academic All-America process began with 24 PFL student-athletes, including 19 first-team selections, receiving recognition for their classroom accomplishments by being named to their respective 2009 University Division ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Teams.

Pioneer Football League athletic directors established the Academic All-PFL squads in 1993 as a way to recognize the league’s outstanding student-athletes. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his career. No athlete is eligible until he has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his institution.
