The league's newest member and one of the original five will meet to open the 2009 PFL conference race in Week 2. Meanwhile, three other league members will meet fellow FCS opposition on the road. In addition, Dayton gets its season underway placing all 10 PFL members on the gridiron for the first time this season.

Marist and Drake get the 2009 PFL race underway when the meet, Saturday. Marist, the league's newest member, opened its season with a road victory at Sacred Heart. Drake, one of the original five, posted a shutout victory at home against Grand View. Both squads were picked to finish in the lower half of the PFL race, Drake picked sixth while Marist received the eight-place nod. For Marist, sophomore corneback Jaquan Bryant returned two interceptions for touchdownsin the Sacred Heart contest to help break open a tight contest. Drake freshman quarterback Mike Piatkowski will get his first PFL test after completing 23-of-34 passes for 248 yards against Grand View.

Morehead State meets Northeast Conference member St. Francis, Saturday. The Eagles opened the season with a 61-10 romp against Southern Virginia last weekend. St. Francis suffered a 24-14 loss at New Hampshire. Morehead State rolled up 490 yards total offense in its contest while holding Southern Virginia to 171 yards. Saint Francis record 277 yards, led by quarterback John Kelly's 13-of-30, 133-yard passing performance.

Series: First Meeting
Jacksonville also hits the road to meet FCS opposition when it meets Southern Conference member Samford. The Dolphins opened their campaign with a 40-24 victory at Webber International. Samford entered the season receiving votes in the Sports Network FCS poll but fell to Central Florida in its opener. Jacksonville junior quarterback Josh McGregor completed 11-of-22 passes for 315 yards and four touchdowns in at Webber International. Samford sophomore wide receiver Riley Hawkins caught three passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns, including a 67-yard touchdown reception.

San Diego will travel across the Rocky Mountains to meet the Big Sky's Northern Colorado. The Toreros will seed to rev up their high-powered offense in the rarefied air of Greeley (at an altitude of 4,666 feet). San Diego needed just 291 yards of offense to post a 10-point victory at Azusa Pacific last weekend. Senior quarterback Sebastian Trujillo completed 8-of-12 passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Northern Colorado opened its season with a 49-3 loss at FBS No. 25 Kansas. Senior quarterback Bryan Waggener completed 19-of-30 passes for 165 yards.

Campbell will seek its first-ever back-to-back victories when it heads south to meet Birmingham-Southern in the first of two games involving PFL members in Birmingham. The Camels are fresh off recording their firse-ever home victory – a 48-28 downing of Methodist. Junior quarterback Matt Vollono's came on in relief and went 10-of-13 for 219 yards for four touchdowns to lead the come-from-behind effort. Birmingham-Southern dropped a 30-27 decision at LaGrange as 24-yard field goal sailed through the uprights as time expired. Junior quarterback Joe Thigpen completed 12-of-18 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne (1-1)

Davidson, fresh off a loss at nationally-ranked Elon, opens its home schedule when it hosts Lenoir-Rhyne. The Wildcats had a rough outing at No. 11 Elon last weekend, posting just 104 yards total offense and making only two forays into opposing territory. Lenoir-Rhyne dropped a 52-45 overtime decision at Concord last weekend, despite rushing for 406 yards. Senior quarterback Justin Sanders carried the ball 14 times for 163 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

Dayton will hit the gridiron for the first time in 2009 when it hosts Urbana, Saturday. The Flyers, who open their 102nd football season, have won their last nine home openers. Urbana enters the outing with two contests already in hand, including a 20-19 victory against West Virginia Wesleyan last weeken. The Blue Knights won courtesy senior kicker Matt Hausher's 33-yard field goal boot as time expired.

Butler stays in the Hoosier State for the second consecutive weekend but travels to in-state foe Franklin for the first time since 1986, Saturday. Butler takes the momentum of a 42-3 victory against Albion in which sophomore quarterback Andrew Huck tied a school record with five
touchdown passes, completing
18-of-25 passes for 327 yards while also rushing for a sixth touchdown
late in the third quarter. Franklin opened its season with a 38-31 victory at Baldwin-Wallace where junior quarterback Kyle Ray completed 25-of-34 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns.
Valparaiso (0-1, 0-0 PFL)
at Concordia (0-1)
Mequon, Wisc.
Series: VAL leads, 1-0
Valparaiso will seek its season's first victory when it meets Concordia in a battle of Lutheran-affiliated schools. The Crusaders dropped their season-opener, 31-6, at St. Joseph's after surrendering 24 points in the game's final 9:24. Valparaiso's scoring was limited to a pair of sophomore Chris Smith
field goals – a 34 yard kick in the second quarter and a 47-yard boot
in the third quarter. Concordia had as much trouble in its opener, a 52-10 loss to Bethel (Minn.). The Falcons recorded just 204 yards total offense in the loss.
