San Diego's Armstead earns STATS FCS National honor

CHICAGO – San Diego junior Michael Armstead was named the STATS FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week, becoming the third Pioneer Football League athlete to earn national recognition this season. 

With Jacksonville bidding for an upset when it pulled within a touchdown  San Diego in the final minute of the first half, Armstead went to work, returning the ensuing kickoff 67 yards to set up a late touchdown. He then opened the second half with a 100-yard return for a score, sending the Toreros on their way to a 59-35 win - their 26th straight in the league. Armstead finished with 217 all-purpose yards, including a 16-yard touchdown reception.
