The Pioneer Football League Report: Week 3

Monday, September 10, 2018
by Cody Bush, PFL Media Relations

For the first time in 2018, all 10 PFL members are scheduled to enjoy a Saturday football game. Two of the league's members will help the Ivy League kick off its campaign when San Diego travels cross-country to face Harvard while Butler will open its home schedule against visiting Princeton. The Ivy League won last season's series against the PFL, 3-1, with three meetings scheduled between the two nonscholarship conferences in 2018. Stetson will take to the road for the first time this season when it faces future PFL member Presbyterian in the revival of a series that has been dormant since 1956. Dayton and Duquesne will meet for the 11th consecutive season with Duquesne holding a 7-3 advantage in the previous 10 games, the series dates all the way back to 1920. After a narrow two-point loss at Duquesne to begin the season, Valparaiso stays on the road to face a Youngstown State that will seek revenge against the PFL after losing to Butler to begin the season. Morehead State remains home to face a former PFL member in Austin Peay, it will be the 46th meeting between the two teams with Morehead State holding a 26-19 advantage in the all-time series. Marist will head eastward for a meeting with Northeast Conference member Bryant in the renewal of a series last played in 2012, the Red Foxes own wins in both previous meetings against the Bulldogs. Jacksonville and Drake will both host Division II programs in Week 3 – Jacksonville will host Ohio-based Walsh University in the second meeting between the programs while Drake will host Missouri S&T for the seventh meeting between the teams. Davidson will play its third consecutive home game against another North Carolina-based program when Division III foe Guilford comes calling at Richardson Stadium.
