Eastern Kentucky 49, Morehead State 23

RICHMOND, Ky. – Morehead State scored twice in less than a minute in the fourth quarter, but an halftime deficit proved too much to overcome in a 49-23 loss to Eastern Kentucky on the opening night of the college football season, Thursday at Roy Kidd Stadium.

Eastern Kentucky (1-0) scored three times in the first quarter, jumping out to a 18-0 lead. The Eagles would get on the board midway through the second quarter on Isiah Aguero's first scoring run and trailed 18-7 at halftime. But the Colonels returned from halftime and scored the game's next 24 points, extending its advantage to 42-7.

Morehead State (0-1) attempted to forge a comback late in the fourth quarter. Aguero completed a 12-play, 74-yard drive with a four-yard run for a touchdown. Moments later, Jeremiah Draper forced a fumble recovered by the Eagles and two plays later Jovan Smith completed the short scoring drive with a four-yard run. But Eastern Kentucky scored on the game's next drive to end the threat.

Quarterback Lawson Page completed 20-of-34 passes for 221 yards to pace the Eagles' offense. Smith led the MSU run game with 54 yards on eight carries while Aguero finished with 21 yards on six carries.
