CHICAGO – San Diego quarterback Anthony Lawrence has been named STATS FCS National Freshman of the Week after posting his first career 300-yard performance in a win against Drake, Saturday.

Facing what has been one of the better PFL defenses in recent years, Lawrence completed 22-of-33 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns. He threw a 16-yard TD pass to Jereke Armstrong as the first quarter ended and added a 62-yard score to Armstrong late in the third quarter. The scoring strikes raised his rookie season total to 12.

Lawrence is the third Pioneer Football League player to receive STATS FCS National Player of the Week honors. Morehead State quarterback Austin Gahafer earned its offensive honor after his Week 2 performance against VMI. Campbell defensive end Ugonna Awuruonye nabbed the defensive award after his Week 5 performance against Drake.
