IN BRIEF

Dayton needed a PFL record five overtimes to defeat Davidson in what was a wild day around the league, Saturday. Campbell, Jacksonville, Butler and Marist also prevailed on a day that saw 332 points scored in five games.

LEAGUE RECAPS

JACKSONVILLE defeated DRAKE, 29-14
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville took a 10-7 lead into halftime then opened the second half by forcing turnovers on four consecutive Drake possessions to secure a 29-14 Pioneer Football League victory, Saturday, at D.B. Milne Field. Drake scored the game's first touchdown as Andy Rice found Eric Saubert on a five-yard strike with 6:26 left in the first half. Jacksonville responded on its ensuing drive, capped by Ulysses Bryant's two yard run. The Dolphins took the lead with 42 seconds left in the half on a Brandon Behr 50-yard field goal then scored the first 14 points of the second half. Drake's offense could not find its stride in the second frame, seeing its first four drives ended by three interceptions and a fumble, and could not recover. Bryant led Jacksonville's offense with a 17-carry, 140-yard rushing effort that included two touchdowns. Rice paced the Drake offense with a 20-of-43, 264-yard effort that included a touchdown and three interceptions.

CAMPBELL defeated MOREHEAD STATE, 31-24
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Dakota Wolf found Jared Joyner for a 68-yard touchdown pass with 4:16 remaining in the game to escape with a 31-24 PFL victory against Morehead State, Saturday, at Jayne Stadium. It was the third big play of the day for the Camels, with David Salmon throwing a 64-yard touchdown pass to DeShawn Jones and Isaiah Howard returning a kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown. That kickoff return put Campbell up 24-10, but Morehead state scored the game's next 14 points to tie the game 24-24, setting up the Camels winning drive. Wolf completed 8-of-12 passes for 171 yards but added 116 yards on 14 carries, scoring both passing and running. Morehead State running back Rees Macshara finished with 26 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown.

DAYTON defeated DAVIDSON, 54-48 in five overtimes
DAYTON, Ohio – Dayton's Connor Kacsor scored four overtime touchdowns, the final one in the fifth extra period, to lead Dayton past Davidson 54-48 in PFL action, Saturday, at Welcome Stadium. The five overtime contest was the longest in PFL history and tied for second longest in FCS history. The extra time was necessary after the two team's combined for 34 points in the fourth quarter. Davidson kicker Trevor Smith connected on a 44-yard field goal as regulation time expired, tying the game at 27-27. Both teams scored in the first overtime, Kacsor scoring his first touchdown while Davidson converted on fourth down to extend the game. After a scoreless second frame, both teams scored in the third OT, but neither could convert the required two-point conversion. That wasn't the case in the fourth extra period, as both teams connected on the two-point converstion. Finally, in the fifth overtime, Dayton saw Will Bardo connect with Kacsor for a six-yard touchdown. The Flyers defense ended the game when Tom Fanning intercepted a pass. The teams combined for 59 first downs and 973 total yards. Kacsor compiled 213 yards on 47 carries to lead the Dayton offense. Davidson quarterback J.P. Douglas completed 38-of-58 passes for 313 yards and four touchdowns, with William Morris catching 15 of those passes for 158 yards and three touchdowns.

MARIST defeated VALPARAISO, 35-7
VALPARAISO, Ind. – Marist scored 21 points in the second quarter to surge past Valparaiso, 35-7, in Saturday PFL action at Brown Field. Valparaiso opened the game's scoring with Tanner Kuramata's 14-yard touchdown run halfway through the first quarter, but could not score again. Marist tied the game thanks to a fumble recovery that set up a quick three-play drive capped by Atiq Lucas' two-yard touchdown run. Early in the second quarter, Marist struck quickly with a one-play drive as Anthony Francis found Joe Tralli for a 55-yard touchdown to take the lead for good. Marist out-gained Valparaiso by a 403-239 margin, the bulk of that advantage coming courtesy a 219-109 ground margin. Lucas finished with 22 carries for 88 yards and two touchdowns to lead Marist. Valparaiso's Ben Lehman completed 10-of-22 passes for 107 yards.

BUTLER defeated STETSON, 49-41
DeLAND, Fla. – Butler used a combination of big plays and good field position to pick up a 49-41 PFL victory against Stetson, Saturday, at Spec Martin Stadium. Butler's defense came up with four turnovers which the offense turned into 14 points, including an interception inside the Stetson 20-yard line that was turned into a touchdown that put Butler ahead 42-28 in the fourth quarter. Butler also had two big plays of 50-plus yards, including an 83-yard touchdown run by Sam Schrader, who had nine carries for 193 yards and three touchdowns, in the third quarter. Meanwhile, Stetson's offense kept churning and ultumately out-gained Butler by a 555-411 margin. Quarterback Ryan Tentler completed 18-of-32 passes for 328 yards and five touchdowns in the loss, including a 65-yard touchdown strike to Kegan Moore, who finished with six catches for 191 yards and three touchdowns.
