IN BRIEF

The 2014 regular season slate came to an end Saturday with Dayton, Drake and Valparaiso each picking up victories. Morehead State and San Diego dropped nonconference tilts.

Charlotte defeated MOREHEAD STATE, 52-14
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte struck for 24 first-quarter points and posted a 52-14 nonconference victory against Morehead State, Saturday, at Richardson Field. The 49ers scored the game's first 45 points as Morehead State did not break through until Austin Gahafer found Brandon Bornhauser for a 18-yard pass with two minutes remianing in the third quarter. The Charlotte running back duo of Kalif Phillips and Damarrell Alexander combined for 294 yards and five touchdowns. Gahafer completed 19-of-38 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns – adding a 16-yard scoring pass to Jake Raymond in the fourth quarter.

DAYTON defeated CAMPBELL, 19-14
DAYTON, Ohio – Connor Kacsor's lone touchdown run came with 4:48 left in the game and pushed Dayton to a 19-14 PFL victory against Campbell, Saturday, at Welcome Stadium. Dayton kicker William Will had two field goals to help the Dayton offense, which also used a touchdown pass from Will Bardo to Ross Smith. Campbell led twice in the contest, both after Jabari Ridenhour runs. His 6-yard run with 10:32 left in the fourth quarter gave Campbell a 19-13 lead. Kacsor finished the day with 90 yards on 24 carries, become the Flyers career rushing yards leader. Campbell quarterback Dakota Wolf passed for 93 yards and ran for another 83 yards to lead his offensive unit.

DRAKE defeated STETSON, 27-15
DeLAND, Fla. – Drake used a 13-point second quarter to down Stetson, 27-15, in Saturday PFL action at Spec Martin Stadium. Conley Wilkins' 7-yard run to start the second quarter put the Bulldogs ahead for good while Spencer Lee's 29 and 21-yard field goals in the frame helped seal the win. Stetson held an 8-7 lead in the first quarter when Ryan Tentler found Darius McGriff for an 84-yard touchdown catch-and-carry, which they followed with a two-point conversion. However, that lead could not withstand Drake's second quarter charge. Drake quarterback Andy Rice threw for 189 yards but did his biggest damage on the ground where he had two touchdown runs on 13 carries for 16 yards. Tentler led Stetson's offense with 225 yards on a 14-of-22 passing performance, including a touchdown.

VALPARAISO defeated DAVIDSON, 27-13
VALPARAISO, Ind. – Jacob Newman's 36-yard field goal gave Valparaiso a halftime lead it did not surrender en route to a 27-13 PFL victory against Davidson, Saturday, at Brown Field. Valparaiso quarterback Ben Lehman completed 26-of-33 passes for 284 yards and two touchdowns, both to Andrew Cassara. Davdison running back Jeffrey Keil ran for two touchdowns as part of a 26-carry, 132-yard performance. Keil's 12-yard first-quarter run opened the game's scoring and his 1-yard third quarter run trimmed the Davidson deficit to 17-13, but the Wildcats could get no closer.

Cal Poly defeated SAN DIEGO, 34-3
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Cal Poly ran for five touchdowns and 341 yards to down San Diego, 34-3, in nonconference action, Saturday, at Torero Stadium. Dano Graves and for two touchdowns and passed for another in the victory, which saw him amass 158 offensive yards. San Diego finished with 234 offensive yards, David Last's 32-yard first quarter field goal accounting for the Toreros lone points.
