IN BRIEF

The PFL race got new legs after another wild week across the conference. Marist started the day with an upset victory against league-leading Jacksonville.  Stetson and then San Diego each pulled off fourth-quarter wins, San Diego moving into a tie with Jacksonville for the league lead. Dayton rallied to pull out a home win while Butler won a shootout at home.

LEAGUE RECAPS

MARIST defeated JACKSONVILLE, 17-16
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Anthony Francis connected with Armani Martin for a 29-yard touchdown pass and Mike Maccarone kicked the extra-point with five seconds left to down Jacksonville, 17-16, in Saturday PFL action at Tenney Stadium. Jacksonville led 13-3 after three quarters and held a 16-10 advantage after a Brandon Behr 34-yard field goal with 2:39 remaining. Marist drove 65 yards in 13 plays on the ensuing drive, capped by the Francis to Martin touchdown throw. Jacksonville out-gained Marist by a 428-180 margin, but could not convert that advantage into points. Jacksonville's Kade Bell completed 29-of-40 passes for 306 yards and a touchdown. Francis led Marist with a 14-for-29, 172-yard passing performance.

BUTLER defeated MOREHEAD STATE, 62-52
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Butler scored 28 consecutive points in the second quarter and held on for a 62-52 PFL victory against Morehead State, Saturday, at the Butler Bowl. Morehead State led 20-7 after one quarter, but Butler scored rushing touchdowns on four successive drives to take a 35-20 lead. The Bulldogs scored the second half's first 14 points to extend their lead to 48-23 with 5:27 left in the third quarter and held off a furious Eagles rally. Morehead State rolled up 701 offensive yards – the fifth 700-yard performance in the FCS this season – with three receivers amassing 100 yards each. Butler's Sam Schrader ran for four touchdowns as part of his 13-carry, 162-yard performance.

STETSON def. CAMPBELL, 28-24
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Ryan Tentler found Rob Coggin for a 37-yard touchdown with 4:03 remaining to help Stetson down Campbell, 28-24, in PFL action, Saturday, at Barker-Lane Stadium. Campbell led 21-7 after one quarter, thanks to Brandon Mobley's 40-yard interception return to kickoff the scoring folowed by Dakota Wolf running and passing for a touchdown. Yet Stetson kept plugging away, scoring a touchdown in each quarter, Tentler passing for three of the scores. The Hatters amassed 420 offensive yards, Tentler completing 13-of-24 passes for 245 yards and running for another 91 yards on five carries. Campbell finished with 372 offensive yards with eight backs combining for 56 carries and 243 yards.

DAYTON defeated VALPARAISO, 42-19
DAYTON, Ohio – Dayton fended off a Valparaiso charge to post a 42-19 PFL victory, Saturday, at Welcome Stadium. Dayton scored the first 14 points as Connor Kacsor ran from 10 and one yard out. Valparaiso responded with the next 14 points – a pair of Jacob Newman field goals and a Brandon Hall touchdown run. The Flyers recovered to score the next four touchdowns, taking the lead for good when Will Bardo found Ross Smith for a 23-yard touchdown pass with 7:44 remaining in the third. Dayton needed just 366 offensive yards in the win, Kacsor rushing for 92 yards on 19 carries. Valparaiso finished with 433 yards, Hall leading the effort with 108 yards on 20 carries.

SAN DIEGO defeated DRAKE, 17-14
DES MOINES, Iowa – Chris Campano caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Keith Williams to help San Diego escape with a 17-14 PFL win at Drake, Saturday. Drake scored the game's first 14 points on rushing touchdowns by Conley Wilkins and Andy Rice. San Diego got on the scoreboard before halftime when Williams found Brandon White from 35 yards to cut the deficit to 14-7 at halftime. David Last narrowed the deficit further with a 50-yard field goal in the third quarter, setting up the fourth-quarter drama. Both offenses struggled, San Diego outgaining Drake by a 271-204 margin. Williams completed 16-of-27 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns. Drake's ground game rolled up 117 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries.
