NORTHBROOK, Ill. – Davidson senior George Hatalowich has been named to the 2019 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, as announced by the insurance company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Thursday afternoon.
Hatalowich is one of just 22 football players across the country named to the Good Works Team. He was selected from a pool of 137 nominees by a panel of judges that included Heisman Trophy Winner and 2009 Good Works Team selection, Tim Tebow. Hatalowich is the fourth Wildcat chosen to this distinguished team and first since Nate Casey in 2016.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, which was established in 1991 to recognize a select group of college football players who have made a commitment to service and enriching the lives of others.
"We are so happy and honored that George has been selected to the Good Works Team," said head coach Scott Abell. "George represents all the best that Davidson College and Davidson football has to offer. His servant leadership impacts, our program, our campus and community daily."
The Hummelstown, Pa., native has been a staple on the defense since his arrival on campus in 2016, playing in 33 of 35 games with 172 tackles, 14.0 tackles for loss.
Off the field, Hatalowich was integral in creating the Davidson College chapter of Uplifting Athletes, a nonprofit organization that inspires the rare disease community through the power of football. The team has competed in two Lift for Life events that helps raise money for charitable programs such as; Rare Disease Awareness, Rare Disease Research and Uplifting Experiences and Uplifting Leaders.
"College football players are awarded a unique platform to help others. We are honored that George took it upon himself to work with Uplifting Athletes to inspire the Rare Disease Community with hope," said Uplifting Athletes Director of Sports Impact, Brett Brackett. "Student-athletes like George are essential to helping us achieve our mission. Congratulations for this incredible honor!"
As Vice President of Community Service for the Phi Delta Theta, Hatalowich communicates upcoming service events with his fraternity brothers and helped to raise nearly $40,000 for the Phi's for GI's event that helped support the US Armed Forces.
He has also spent time with the Lower Dauphin Special Olympics, led a group of fifth-grade students for a week with Camp Hebron Outdoor Educational Trip and served as an academic tutor at South Hanover Elementary School.
Hatalowich will join the other 21 members of the 2019 team at the 2020 Allstate Sugar Bowl® and will embark on a special community service project to give back to the New Orleans community. Allstate will recognize the team during the halftime show.
