Monday, October 9, 2017

CHICAGO – For a second consecutive week, a PFL athlete has earned national recognition with Dayton junior punter Sean Smith earning the STATS FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week, Monday.

Smith, of Avandale, Pennsylvania, averaged 43 yards per punt to help Dayton down Drake, 20-10, in PFL action, Saturday. Five of his seven punts were downed inside the Drake 20-yard line with two punts going for more than 50 yards. Smith punted three times from inside Drake territory but when punting from inside his own 25 he boomed an average of 56.7 yards on three punts. Drake attempted just one return on his seven punts but muffed the catch and the ball was recovered by Dayton.

In addition, Dayton redshirt freshman safety Tim Simon was an honorable mention selection for National Freshman Player of the Week after intercepting a pair of passes in Saturday's win at Drake.

Campbell freshman running back Montel Goods earned the PFL's first national honor last week when he was named the STATS FCS National Freshman Player of the Week.
