WEEK 8 QUICK SNAPS

League-leading San Diego returns to the road for a Week 8 tilt at Butler, seeking to extend its 12-game PFL road winning streak… San Diego last lost a road PFL contest on Oct. 3, 2015, at Jacksonville… Meanwhile, Butler will play only its third home game in the season’s opening eight weeks, they are 1-1 at the Sellick Bowl this season… Drake travels to Dayton with both clubs looking to bounce back from close losses in Week 8… Dayton is unbeaten at Welcome Stadium this season, with a 25-point margin of victory in its three home wins… Drake is on the road for just the third time this season and will look to keep within sight of San Diego which sits one game ahead in the standings… Marist is off to a 2-1 start in PFL play thanks to a come-from-behind win at Jacksonville last week and will also look to keep pace in the title race when Davidson visits Poughkeepsie… Davidson suffered its first home loss of 2018 last week but still ran up 264 rushing yards in the loss – its sixth 200-yard rushing performance in seven outings this season… The Sunshine State Showdown is on tap when Jacksonville makes the trip to Stetson, the Dolphins are unbeaten in five previous meetings between the two PFL sides… Jacksonville has lost four straight but its last two losses have been by a touchdown or less, including a three-point defeat last week… Stetson bounced back from its loss at league-leading San Diego in Week 7 to stun Drake on a late fumble recovery for a touchdown, improving to 2-1 and its 4-1 start is its best start since 1950… Two clubs that secured their first PFL win of 2018 in Week 7 will meet in Week 8 as Morehead State heads north to Valparaiso… Morehead State’s first PFL win came on the road against Davidson while Valparaiso’s first PFL win was at home against Butler, both teams will seek to repeat those performances this week.

COOK NAMED NATIONAL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK | Dayton’s Jack Cook was named the STATS FCS National Freshman Player of Week 7 after nearly leading Dayton to end ended San Diego’s PFL (23 games) and home (18) winning streaks before falling 36-34. He passed for a school-record 432 yards and accounted for all five Flyers’ touchdowns. He was 29 of 40 for four touchdown passes and rushed for 29 yards, including a 9-yard score. He led an offense that was turnover-free while totaling 497 yards.

COOK NAMED TO RICE AWARD WATCH LIST | Dayton redshirt freshman quarterback Jack Cook has been named to the Watch List of the STATS FCS Jerry Rice Award.  The Rice Award is given annually to the top freshman football player in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). He was one of 15 FCS freshmen named to the initial Jerry Rice Award Watch List.

TOREROS OWN NATION’S #1 HOME WIN STREAK | With James Madison’s home loss, Oct. 6, San Diego has become the FCS team with the longest home win streak. The Toreros own a 19-game home winning streak that dates back to a season-ending loss in 2014 (Cal Poly). San Diego will put that streak on the line this weekend when Dayton visits the west coast.

RED FOXES’ CHRISTIAN SEEKS PFL RECEIVERS RECORD | Marist wideout Juston Christian is on his way to setting the PFL record for most career receiving yards, entering Week 8 with 3,545 yards receiving – taking over the FCS lead among active career leaders. He needs 260 yards to break the record set by Valparaiso’s Rob Giancola (3,804 yards, 2001-04). He is only the sixth receiver in league history to amass 3,000 career receiving yards.

CAN TEMPLE JOIN RECEIVING RANKS? | While the 3,000 career receiving yard club only has six members currently, Butler’s Pace Temple seeks to join the group. With 2,767 career yards entering Week 8, he stands a good chance of becoming lucky number seven.

USD’s LAWRENCE SEVENTH TO 10,000 YARDS | San Diego’s Anthony Lawrence became the He also was the second San Diego quarterback to reach the milestone, joining Mason Mills (10,204 yards, 2010-13). Entering Week 8, Lawrence has 10,560 career passing yards – second among FCS active career leaders. The PFL record for career passing yards is 11,230 yards held by Jacksonville’s Josh McGregor.

DAYTON’S YINGER 12TH MEMBER OF PFL 3,000-YARD CLUB | Dayton running back Tucker Yinger became the 12th PFL runner to record 3,000 career rushing yards, reaching the milestone in Week 7 action at San Diego. With 3,022 career rushing yards, he joins Connor Kacsor (3,528 yards) as the only Dayton runners to breach 3,000 career rushing yards.

SAN DIEGO EXTENDS PFL RECORD WIN STREAK | San Diego extended its PFL record win streak in conference-only games to 24 games with its win against Dayton, Oct. 15. San Diego’s last PFL loss was a 13-12 loss to Dayton on Oct. 10, 2015 in Dayton, Ohio, which it followed with back-to-back 8-0 PFL campaigns in 2016 and 2017. It is the second-longest active FCS conference winning streak behind Jacksonville State’s 35-game win streak in Ohio Valley Conference play.
